Ratan Kumar Vishwakarma
Dhokra Master · Kondagaon, Chhattisgarh
Ratan comes from a line of Dhokra casters that stretches back six generations in Kondagaon, the heart of Bastar's tribal craft belt. He learnt the lost-wax process from his father at age nine — first watching, then modelling the beeswax forms with his own fingers. Today his workshop employs four members of his extended family and has become one of the last in the region still using traditional forest clay for the casting shells, rather than commercial alternatives. Each Nataraja he makes takes him three to four full days, and no two are ever the same.
